Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the term of the Journey, Explore and Adventure memberships?
The initial term of a Journey, Explore or Adventure membership is either 2- or 4-years. At the end of the initial term, your membership will automatically renew for additional one-year periods. You may cancel your membership by notifying us at least 30 days prior to expiration.
Why are these Enhanced Memberships better than buying a second-hand lifetime membership?

What are my use privileges with these memberships?
The Journey, Explore and Adventure entitles you park-to-park movement between membership campgrounds and up to 21-day stays. Journey membership includes a 120-day advance booking window, Explore includes a 150-day advance booking window, and Adventure includes a 180-day advance booking window. In addition, day use at all campgrounds associated with your specific membership.
How long can I stay at a resort?
While there is no limit to the total number of nights that you may use your Journey, Explore or Adventure each year, members are subject to a maximum stay of 21 consecutive days for any resort, except when utilizing extension weeks that are available for each of the memberships: Journey (2 @ $29/wk non-peak), Explore (2 @ $29/wk non-peak), Adventure (2 @ $99/wk peak, and 4 @ $29/wk non-peak).
What are the differences between the Trails Collection and Trails Collection Plus?
While all enhanced memberships include access to The Trails Collection and its included 100+ additional campgrounds, only the Adventure membership includes Trails Collection Plus. This reciprocal membership tier includes an extended 90-day booking window and allows the same 21-day stays and park-to-park access members get at Thousand Trails campgrounds. The regular Trails Collection included with the Journey and Explore memberships, or available as an upgrade with an annual Camping Pass, has a 60-day booking advance booking window. It allows for 14-day stays, and requires 7 days out of network before next stay.
What are the Campgrounds included in the Trails Collection? Why can’t campgrounds in other parts of the country be added?
The Trails Collection reciprocal program campgrounds are owned by Equity Lifestyle Properties, but not part of Thousand Trails brand or core memberships. These Trails Collection properties include Encore RV Resorts in sunbelt locations and other destination campgrounds across the country. Not all ELS-owned RV resorts and campgrounds are included in the Trails Collection, but additional resorts and campgrounds may be added from time to time. [RPI verbiage]
Some RV resorts are listed as being 55+? If I am under 55, can I still stay at them if part of my membership?

Who may use my Journey, Explore or Adventure?
Your Journey, Explore or Adventure membership covers the purchaser, his/her spouse, and any dependent children age 23 and under who live at home or attend school away from home. Other family members may use the campgrounds as guests as set forth in the Usage Rules. Our spacious campsites can accommodate up to 10 persons, so don't forget to bring your friends along! In addition, Family Courtesy Cards are available for an additional fee.
Will my member number change if I switch memberships?
Yes, switching to a new membership (Journey, Explore, or Adventure) will result in a new member number.
Do I keep benefits from my current membership if I upgrade?
No. New memberships supersede existing memberships and all previous benefits are forfeited.
What happens to my pre-paid Camping Pass dues?
Pre-paid dues will be applied to your new membership. The remaining balance will be placed on the front end of your dues, meaning that you will not pay a monthly fee until the pre-paid balance has been used.
Will my current reservations carry over if I upgrade?
Yes, as long as you follow the appropriate transition process, your existing reservations will transfer to your new membership.
Can I have both a Camping Pass and an enhanced membership?
No, you cannot have both a camping pass and an enhanced membership. Camping Pass holders must upgrade, and the pass is forfeited upon conversion.
What if I purchase the Journey but want to change to the Explore or Adventure?
You can upgrade your Journey to the Explore or Adventure by calling Thousand Trails Member Services at 1-877-730-5935. You are able to move to a category of membership with a higher dues structure and benefits at any time. If you would like to move to a membership with lesser benefits, you must wait until the end of your term.
